- Fever (within the last 24 hours).
- Pus on your tonsils.
- Rapid onset (symptoms appeared within 3 days).
- Severely inflamed tonsils.
- Absence of a cough or cold symptoms.

Depending on your symptoms and clinical assessment, treatment may include:
- Self-care advice.
- Pain relief recommendations.
- Medicated throat treatments.
- Antibiotics where clinically appropriate under NHS Pharmacy First guidelines.
Who Can Access the Service?
The NHS Pharmacy First sore throat pathway is available for adults and children aged 5 years and over with symptoms of an acute sore throat or tonsillitis.
